“Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. Behind The Art
What is most encouraging, most appealing, to me about this Psalm is its simple assurance of the Lord's abiding presence in my life. I need to focus on that, dwell on that. My petitionary prayers are inconsistent, random; they go on and on. The subjects are: my family, friends, myself, people I hear about, the usual. “Please do this. Please do that.”
I can imagine the Lord saying “I’m glad you’re praying, Michael; turning to Me with these various needs. Of course, that’s the right thing to do. But, I sometimes wonder, as you think of Me, do you ever simply want to keep Me company? Do you ever want to – what’s that phrase your son uses? – ‘just hang out’?”
